NC High Peaks will lead a hike along the scenic Tanawha Trail on Friday, May 9th. The moderately strenuous 7.7 mile hike will start at Stack Rock and end at the Boone Fork parking area, taking 4-5 hours to complete. Along the way hikers will see a waterfall, Rough Ridge, Ravens Rock and cross under the Linn Cove Viaduct.

The trail has areas of roots, rocks with some small scrambles as well as a few water crossings so good hiking boots and perhaps poles are recommended. Bring snacks, lunch and plenty of water.

Round trip transportation will be provided by Yancey County Transportation for a $5 donation. Hikers will meet in the Roses parking lot in Burnsville at 8:30 am for the 1 hour ride.

Well behaved (leashed) dogs are welcome to come, however they cannot ride on the van. Those that bring dogs can meet us at the Stack Rock parking area at 9:30. You will also have to arrange for a car drop at the Boone Fork parking area.

Contact hike leader Mariane Garceau by text at 845-545-2441 to reserve a spot on the van. As always, check the High Peaks website, www.nchighpeaks.org, or Facebook page for last-minute changes due to the weather.
